Bob Seger ready for big exhale
DETROIT March 12, 2007 -- By John Sinkevics, the Grand Rapids Press - As his first U.S. tour in a decade wraps up this week with a series of Detroit concerts,
Bob Seger sounds like a guy content with the world and thrilled he still has the power to rock the house with his blue-collar
anthems at age 61.
Even so, the Michigan native resisted the idea of concluding this much-publicized tour with another "hometown" stint. After all,
he kicked things off in his home state last November with sold-out shows in Grand Rapids and Saginaw, then played four rousing concerts
at the Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit. That was really my management, my wife and a bunch of other people," Seger
said of the idea of coming back to play Detroit's Joe Louis Arena and Cobo Hall to wind up the 49-date tour. "I kind of wanted to finish in Vegas.
But they said, 'If you never come back, it won't feel right,' and they convinced me.
"It's against really what I wanted. We have to get up so high to do Detroit and Michigan. You have to be up there mentally." But Seger also insisted
he and the Silver Bullet Band are prepared to raise the bar yet again as his five-month tour comes to a close. "I think they (band members) are playing
better on this tour than any other tour," he said by phone from his home outside Detroit, enjoying a day off before a concert in Omaha.
"Songs that I was tired of, like 'Old Time Rock and Roll,' sound better than they ever have."
Fans and concert promoters seem to agree: Based on box-office grosses, the Seger tour consistently has ranked among the top 5 tours in the country since
November, racking up numerous sellouts. Reviews have been almost universally favorable, with The Denver Post proclaiming Seger, in his signature black
T-shirt and jeans, had delivered "powerful, completely unpretentious rock 'n' roll," and The Dallas Morning News crowing he "performed with all the energy,
excitement and joie de vivre of a kid during a candy-store shopping spree." But does he still feel like a kid after five months of touring? You bet.
"It's really been very cool and easier than I thought," Seger said. "Everybody's real dedicated. It must be maturity."
The mature Seger said he only felt tired after the first Grand Rapids show and after a high-altitude Denver concert in February. To help matters, Seger
hasn't played shows on consecutive nights and has worked to take care of himself, babying his voice in particular. "Not a problem, but a lot of upkeep.
You have to follow strict rules ... when you're 61," he said, with a chuckle. "Tons of water, and I sleep with a vaporizer. I use throat lozenges."
A cigarette smoker, Seger conceded he still smokes but also does plenty of warm-ups before shows to keep his voice in singing shape. And "I do absolutely
no talking after the gig," he said. So, does this bode well for future tours? Or is Seger ready to hang it up now that he has gotten a long-anticipated
studio album, "Face the Promise," and long-anticipated concert tour out of his system? "I don't want to make the final decision (right now) on whether I'm done,
although I probably am at my age," he offered. "I'm just going to wait until October and let the dust settle. I really need a break, and that will let me
clear my head."
After Saturday's final Cobo Hall show -- which will be taped and filmed, sort of reprising Seger's 1976 "Live Bullet" album -- the father of two plans to
unleash "a big exhale," relax and take his kids to Florida. But he'll do so with fond, satisfying memories of a tour that some thought might never happen.
"I don't think we've had a complacent audience yet. It's really been amazing," Seger said. "It's really been a great experience. It really has. I
couldn't be more pleased."
Bob Seger to end tour in Detroit at Joe Louis
It’s on: Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band will play Joe Louis Arena on March 13. Seats will go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 17 at the
arena box office and through Ticketmaster. Prices will be announced next week, said officials with show promoter Live Nation.
Tickets for other stops on Seger’s national tour have run between $60 and $65.
The hometown concert will be Seger’s first in the city of Detroit since closing out his “American Storm” tour 20 years ago to the week:
He and the Silver Bullet Band wrapped up a seven-night stand at Joe Louis on March 8, 1987. March will mark the fourth month of Seger’s
massively successful “Face the Promise” run, which included four sold-out shows in December at the Palace of Auburn Hills. There are currently
no shows booked beyond March 13. Fans had known a Joe Louis date was probably on the way: Seger told the Free Press last fall that he planned
to play the downtown Detroit venue to cater to his Downriver and east-side audiences.
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band Keep Rockin'
Critically-Acclaimed Face The Promise Tour Extended Through February 2007 LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band will extend their enormously successful Face The Promise tour, with the new
dates keeping the band on the road through February 2007. Highlights include four sold-out dates at Detroit's Palace of Auburn Hills in late December and a
sold-out show at New York's Madison Square Garden on January 25th. The tour has captivated critics and fans alike with a total attendance of 293,711 for the
first 21 shows.
"Seger hasn't been on the road in 10 years, and his absence has aroused something deeper than just reverence or nostalgia for his music," observed the
Kansas City Star. "[The arena] was packed and loud and raucous, like a playoff sporting event -- a sign that a lot of people have figured out that real rock
'n' roll has less to do with chronological age than it does with quality and durability."
"Seger lives up to his rock-legend status ... still true to the core values that made his name a touchstone in heartland rock," said the Milwaukee Journal
Sentinel while the St. Louis Post-Dispatch hailed the show as "a cathartic return for one of rock's greatest voices" and made note of the multigenerational
crowd -- "aging boomers alongside thirtysomethings next to the young and pierced."
Seger's latest album, Face The Promise, was just certified Platinum by the RIAA this week, marking the 11th Platinum album of his extraordinary career. The
tour, which features a mixture of new songs and Seger's numerous hits, is clearly igniting additional interest in the new album, with sales spiking in
each market after Seger & The Silver Bullet Band play." ... the singer has returned with a solid album, 'Face the Promise,' and the grit still clinging
to his voice," said the Chicago Tribune. "But he never really went away. His hits collections remain perennial best sellers, and his songs have become part
of the fabric of at least two generations. From "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" to "Roll Me Away," with stops in between for "Night Moves", "Hollywood Nights",
"Old Time Rock and Roll" and "Katmandu", Seger roared the blue-collar blues ... a two-hour-plus concert devoted to durable songs about misfits and vagabonds."
Seger, of course, has been renowned for his live shows for decades -- a point underscored by the fact that his first commercial breakthrough was not a studio
album but 1976's Live Bullet, a double live album that has sold over five million copies.

Bob Seger enjoying latest tour
By Jon Bream, McClatchy Newspapers
11/28/06 - My voice sounds like crap now,” Bob Seger proclaimed. It was the morning after the fourth concert of his first tour in 10 years.
He’d just woken up. On stage, however, his voice is “holding up really good,” he said. “It’s actually getting stronger every night, believe it
or not.”
The 61-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer drinks Throat Coat Tea and takes a mucous-dissolving product — but “that’s probably way too much information,”
he said with a joyous phlegm-filled cackle that resonated down in his belly. After the long hiatus, Seger has developed a new routine for
gig days: Wake up at 8:30, take care of business, maybe nap, see the kids after school, fly to the gig on a private plane, do sound-check, eat dinner,
nap again, loosen up, drink more tea, perform, fly home, fall asleep by 3 a.m. or so.

tonight at Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena, first in a seven-week string of dates

includes longtime Silver Bullet players Chris Campbell, Craig Frost and Alto Reed.
News: Bob Seger - A Michigan Man Through and Thorough
11/07/06 - The Grand Rapids Press by
John Sinkevics - Bob Seger lives and breathes Michigan. His Motown-soulful, heartland rock oozes blue-collar sentiment and a
plain-speaking Midwest attitude, from the factory-worker anthem "Feel Like a Number" to his latest tender ballad about aging, "The Long Goodbye."
Despite selling 50 million albums, earning global acclaim as a scintillating live act and landing in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he has never moved out
of his native state.
Instead, he has become a fixture at Detroit Pistons games, attends his kids' school sporting events and continues to write and record tunes in his home
studio in Oakland County. And, oh yeah, Michigan loves him back like no other rocker the Great Lakes State has produced. For months, local media outlets
have buzzed about his first album and tour in more than a decade, and his upcoming shows in Van Andel Arena sold out in less than 20 minutes,
setting a record. "I just think I've built up so much good will in my 40 years of playing. Locally, we had a bunch of singles that were really good,
and then 'Ramblin' Gamblin' Man' made national noise in 1968," Seger said f during a recent break in rehearsals. "I guess I've built up so much good
will by living here, staying here and trying to do really good shows. The good will has just paid off."

News: Bob Seger to spotlight new songs on tour
10/25/06 - Billboard — In the midst of rehearsals for his first concert tour in a decade, Bob Seger reports that he and
his Silver Bullet Band are over-preparing for the impending run of shows, which begins November 8 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
"We're learning probably a show and a half, and of course we can't play a show and a half. So we keep playing them, and the
ones that keep getting better are the ones that stay in."
Chief among those are songs from "Face the Promise, "Seger's first album of new material since 1995, which recently
debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200. "Right now we've got about six or seven of them in there, and there might be as many
as nine," he says. "At first you don't want to do too much new (material); it's not what (the audiences) are expecting. It's
really a feel thing, a balancing act."
Seger says he's also working up "Tomorrow" or "Satisfied," the two new songs included on 2003's "Greatest Hits 2"
collection. So far 17 dates have been announced through December 16 in Cleveland. Seger is expected to play some
Detroit-area dates around Christmas and continue the tour into 2007. This year's edition of the Silver Bullet Band includes
stalwarts Alto Reed on saxophone, Chris Campbell on bass and Craig Frost on keyboards, along with Grand Funk Railroad
drummer Don Brewer and longtime backing vocalist Shaun Murphy, who's also a member of Little Feat.
